Nerium International Review

Summary: Nerium is an MLM company that sells anti-aging products and offers its members an earning opportunity to sell its products and get a commission. The Company was created in 2011, and it became the fastest & youngest company ever to hit the top Global 100 List.

Rating: 55/100

Verdict: No

What is Nerium International?

Nerium International was launched by Jeff Olson & Dennis Windsor back in 2011. At that time it came up with only one product “Nerium Age-Defying Night Cream.”

In 2012 the company had achieved the $100 million revenue and ranked #86 among the top 100 best relationship marketing companies.

Further success came in 2013 when it doubled its revenue and ranked 54 in that list. It also started a new product known as “Nerium Age-Defying Day Cream.”

In simple terms, Nerium is an MLM company that sole purpose is to sell its skin care products to people. The company is using these products to recruit people, and that’s where the chain of people is growing day by day.

What most MLM companies do, they charge people premium prices for low-quality products and motivate them to recruit more people to do the same. The sole purpose of joining those sites is to recruit other people and make money.

That’s where more than 99% of people fail.

You can also look at this issue with other popular MLM companies like Le-vel Thrive Experience, Arbonne, Rodan and Fields, and Amway.

Nerium Product Line

In 2011 they started with only one product Nerium Age-Defying Night Cream, and in 2013 they launched Nerium Age-Defying Day Cream.

With the passage of time, they have added further products in the form of;

  • Nerium Firming Body Contour Cream
  • Eye Serum
  • Eye Patches
  • Cleanser and Booster
  • Youth Factor™ line

Yeah, they have partnered with some of the leading research companies, and all of their products have come up with the claims of reducing fine lines, wrinkles, aging effects, hyper-pigmentation and provide an overall improvement in the appearance of damaged skin.

Do Nerium's products really work?

This issue is subjective as some people are complaining about its allergic effects and others are talking about its benefits. So, that’s for sure; the products are not designed for every class of people.

As the products have to be applied on face and skin, I must say that you should consult your doctor first to do that. It could be disastrous for you.

Nerium Company is excessively using a toxic herb called Oleander. Its full name is Nerium oleander. That’s where the name of the company came in.

Though the plant is toxic but in today’s world poisons are being used in creating medicines.

The concept is now getting old.

Some people are even claiming that this is due to this plant the people are getting rashes and skin allergy but honestly speaking I don’t believe this claim. I am not recommending this product despite my previous claim.

How to Make Money with Nerium?

To become their brand partner, you need to purchase either a basic kit or starter kit.

1). Basic Kit – Its price is $49.95, and it didn’t come up with any product. You will only get;

  • Personalized marketing websites
  • Training materials
  • Marketing materials
  • Online Business Center
  • Audiobooks
  • Success Planner
  • Compensation Plan

2). Starter Pack – The starter pack includes basic kit along with three bottles night cream. Its price is $249.95.

However, there are three upgrades that you can buy with this pack also;

  • Bronze Pack ($250) – It includes four bottles night cream + 1 bonus day cream
  • Silver Pack ($750) - It includes 14 bottles night cream + 2 bonus day cream
  • Gold Pack ($1500) - It includes 30 bottles night cream + 4 bonus day cream

As you can see above, there is no product in the basic kit, and it didn’t make sense to buy it. That’s why the most rational option to take a start is using starter pack.

With that, you'll be an official Nerium Brand Partner and can start promoting their products and recruit people.

Immediate Ways to Earn

Though their compensation plan is very detailed here, I would like to focus on immediate ways to earn only.

To be qualified to earn income in the Nerium International Compensation Plan you simply need to remain Active each month.

This can be achieved by:

  • Keeping 200 in Personal Qualifying Volume (PQV) in product sales to personal customers. OR
  • Maintaining 80 in PQV from a personal product Auto-Delivery Order (ADO).

1. Retail Sales

Brand Partners can sell their products online and earn a retail profit. You will earn the differential amount between the price paid by the customer and the Brand Partner.

Let suppose, if a retail order equals $100 and the Brand Partner price is $75, then a retail profit of $25 will be earned.

2. Customer Acquisition Bonus

For each new Preferred Customer (PC) who enrolls with ADO, you will earn a Customer Acquisition Bonus (CAB) based on the price of the initial order.

You can earn higher levels of CABs in two ways: Move advance in rank, or you can acquire more PC. You will get the higher of the two in your commissions.

3. Personal Customer Commissions

Personal Customer Commissions (PCC) are paid in addition to retail commissions and are based on all buying that generate Personal Qualifying Volume (PQV).

This comprises sales to Preferred Customers (PC), retail customers, and purchases made for your personal use and sales inventory needs.

When your personal buying and customer sales exceed 200 in Customer Commissionable Volume (CCV) in a month, you earn 10%–25% commission on the total monthly CCV.

4. Pack Bonus

Earn 10% to 30% each time you sell one or more of the qualifying packs to a new, personally sponsored Brand Partner in a single order within their first 30 days.

Pros & Cons:

The Good

1. BBB Accredited and Member of DSA

The site is accredited by Better Business Bureau having A + rating. This means the site is not a scam, but on the other hand, BBB has more than 97 complaints.

But the thing to remember here is that having A+ ratings with the BBB doesn’t mean that the site is a worthwhile opportunity rather it aims to show the complaints register with it and how the company has addressed.

Moreover, the site is also a member of the Direct Selling Association which further adds the trust in the eyes of people.

2. Growing Company

Nerium hasn’t completed its first year yet, but its growth is tremendous over the years.

Within one year of its incorporation, it had earned over $1 million revenue and Ranked #23 on the Direct Selling News’ North America Top 50 List.

That’s good growth over the years. This is mainly from the efforts of people who are ordinary workers like us. But the larger chunk of earnings cut by the top liners.

Over the years it has also penetrated in the markets of Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Colombia, New Zealand, South Korea, Canada, and Mexico.

3. You Can Make Money

Of course, if you work hard and doesn’t mind telling people about Nerium and its products you can make money using this business model.

However, the system demands too much effort and motivation to stay focus and get results.

The Bad

1. Recruiting, Recruiting and Only Recruiting

That’s true. The only way to work on these companies is to recruit more and more people and earn a commission.

In Nerium, you are taught “Memory Jogger” which means an average person has 1000 links. Use their chart and make a list of 100 people to whom you know.

After that build your list and then follow each one to see which one wants an anti-aging solution or want to become financially independent.

Do you think after telling these people they get ready for purchase decision? That’s your mistake.

If you get one person from your entire list, that will be a big success for you.

But you need to follow again and again these people, and at last, when you ask them a meetup, they will only think about you as a marketing man.

This is where you start to break up your relationship with your friends and family.

2. Saturated Market

If you search for anti-aging products online, few popular MLM companies will come here with the names of;

  • Jeunesse
  • Rodan + Fields
  • Arbonne
  • Younique

The market is saturated with this form of products, and it is difficult for you to decide which one to choose or not.

Though there are millions of buyers and they are very conscious about their health and appearance. They will not use those products just you being a brand partner are promoting them.

People know that this product will touch their face and skin and they don’t want to risk it without consulting their doctor.

3. Lots of Complaints

When you look at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website, Nerium International has more than 100 complaints.

On the other hand, if you move to the Better Business Bureau, they also have 97 complaints against this company.

The larger chunk of complaints falls under the following categories;

  • Health problems like rashes and allergic reaction
  • This results in unwanted credit card charges
  • Unable to get a refund

So, if you join them, there is always a risk of health issues, unwanted credit card charges, and refund issues.

4. Expensive Startup Cost

It’s difficult for most of the people to start with $499.95 with the starter package. Though they have the basic kit $49.95, there is no product included in this pack.

It means you cannot make money selling those products to other people.

Moreover, the items included in the basic kit can easily be found on the web, and there is nothing special in it.

So, it is inevitable that you will go for the option of starter package. Please don’t forget that it doesn’t include the cost of monthly auto-ship and other marketing campaigns.

5. Expensive Products but Poor in Quality

I have worked on many popular MLM/multi-level marketing sites, and it was tough for me to convince people to join those companies. This is the case with Nerium as well.

Simply, on one side the products are high priced as compared to its competitors’ prices and on another side, they don’t offer value.

This issue doesn't lie only with Nerium, but if you look at other popular multi-level marketing businesses like Amway, Zurvita, My Lead System Pro, and Kyani they all are facing this issue as well.

Dues to additional markup charged by those MLM/multi-level marketing sites, it permits them to make a cut from this markup/margin and offer productive compensation plan to their members.

That’s for sure; people don’t join them due to their products, rather their lone purpose of joining those companies is to make money by recruiting other people.

Products are pure crap; this makes hard for their members to convince other people to buy them.

6. Expensive Products but Poor in Quality

Nonetheless the time and effort you put in Nerium, at the end you only have few bucks in your hand.

That’s true....

Though Nerium is one of the legitimate multi-level marketing sites on the web, still this issue is with it.

You can get a paycheck of $100 to $150 per month. Even for that $100 to $150, you need to spend 3-4 hours daily. That’s a lot of work.

It is famous that less than 0.5% of people are successful in the MLM businesses.

Additionally, some studies have shown that approximately 1% of people can get their initial investment back.

These are not my claims and if you think otherwise then just give me one example from sites like Traffic Authority, Perfectly Posh, It Works, Empower Network, Kyani and many more that has a success rate greater than this

If you think Nerium can replace your 9 to 5 jobs and earn you a full-time income, believe me, that’s not going to be happening.

Honestly speaking, I am not going to waste my time on such companies for earning like this, and I don’t like to waste your time too.

Is Nerium a Scam?

Nerium is not a scam because it is still a real business that provides its customers with legitimate business opportunity. Like most MLM firms, they have their upsides and downsides.

The Company deals with some good products that are also in demand for people who are health conscious. Nerium also allows them to take part in its business model and earn a commission for promoting its products to other people.

Despite legitimate, I don’t recommend you to start this as an income opportunity. You cannot expect much from an MLM platform; they get closed anytime.

Can Nerium become your cash cow and provide you with the lifestyle that it promises? I wouldn't think so, but that's just my opinion.

There are cheaper and simpler alternatives out there when it comes to making money online.

Is Nerium a Pyramid Scheme?

Before looking at whether Nerium is a Pyramid Scheme or not, let’s first understand what a pyramid scheme is.

Everyone has a different perspective but what I believe is that the company must have the following characteristics to be called a pyramid scheme;

  1. The pyramid scheme doesn’t offer real products to sell. However, they may purport to sell a product, but they often simply use the product to hide their pyramid structure.
  2. If the money you earn is based on the number of people you hire and your sales to them, it’s probably not. It could be a pyramid scheme.

The FTC warns, "It’s best not to be involved in those plans where the money you earn is based primarily on the number of distributors you hire and your sales to them, rather than on the sales to people outside the plan who plan to use the products.

Final Verdict:

Though Nerium is a legit MLM company, I recommend you to put your concentration on your own online business using affiliate marketing rather than working for someone else behalf.

Including from Nerium, MLM sites have very expensive items, and it gets difficult to sell to other people.

That’s where I recommend my favorite business model called as, Affiliate marketing, which is the only method I suggest to make money online.

Let’s look at the reasons why I prefer affiliate marketing over MLM;

  • Unlike Nerium, you don't have to recruit anyone to make money
  • It gives you control and ownership that Nerium doesn’t
  • You don’t need to be involved in face to face marketing
  • You have the choice to market any products you like
  • It's Free to get started

Don’t put so much effort on Nerium and other similar MLM businesses as if the Nerium gets shut down by FTC, all of your efforts will be wasted, and you need to start again from zero.

On the hand with affiliate marketing, if a Company gets shut, you can find other products and replace the older affiliate links with the new one.
